Marianna was not lying but repeating a very politically targeted statement from her bosses. Marianna is on the spot over this entire issue.  She is caught in the middle! Give here a break for at least trying to respond. And she had to rag her bosses to get them to feed her the info she did share.

Re-read her statement on DS development carefully and read between the lines too. There is no real promise after version 8 is there?

>Our development plans include a new dual-link HD-SDI upgrade card as a purchasable option for Nitris that will provide native connection and AFE conform of 4:4:4 HD-RGB sources such as HDCAM SR decks (No pricing information is available at this time).  [Yup, and they are NOT going to use the readily available Decklink cards that are reasonable priced but a proprietary, Avid "upgrade card" that cost $$$, hc] Plans also include a 64-bit version of DS software <[This is simply version 8, HC] >that will allow significantly more memory for handling large, complex sequences. But maybe the most exciting element is the planned purchasable option<

[Not really developing DS but blending it with Symphony, hc] >to install both Symphony Nitris and DS Nitris on the same box. With this option you can, for example, launch Symphony for an HD conform project or DS for a DI project. The best of both worlds. <

[No mention of a big price adjustment downward is there? Avid must get real with the competition and why must we have both systems to do our work? The answer is that it means more Avid "purple boxes" more Avid licenses and more Avid product overlap. Hey Uncle Avid wants your money. That's what they are in business for" hc]. We originally migrated away from Mac to PC to gain the easily upgradeable platform but they insist on selling proprietary hardware. Murph is right. DS is not representing a large enough chunk of Avids' market. TV/Broadcast and News Ops are!

Three Cheers for DS and what it COULD be if developed aggressively!
Howard

That is very serious statement...  where did you got that?

"DS WILL NOT BENEFIT FROM ANY MAJOR OR SIGNIFICANT FEATURE IMPROVEMENT

AFTER VERSION 8.0., THEY"LL ADD 64 BITS AND 4:4:4 CAPTURE CARD AND

THAT"S ABOUT IT"

FYI Nothing we'll say, beg, threat, force, negociate, cry, scream about

the future of DS will change Avid's Mind.

That I'm absolutely sure of it.

The Future of DS is already decided, they won't change their mind.

For those you didn't get it yet:

DS WILL NOT BENEFIT FROM ANY MAJOR OR SIGNIFICANT FEATURE IMPROVEMENT

AFTER VERSION 8.0., THEY"LL ADD 64 BITS AND 4:4:4 CAPTURE CARD AND

THAT"S ABOUT IT>

Don't sweat over it, we ALL need to make our mind about that.

If any of us wants the features from the WISH LIST, IT WILL NEVER COME

FROM DS.

WE'LL NEED TO WAIT FOR A NEW PRODUCT FROM AVID OR BUY ANOTHER PRODUCT

THAT ALREADY POSSESS THOSE FEATURES.

Period, nothing else to argue about.

DS is technically dead after version 8.0, some QFE will follow and

that's about it.

Like I mention before, time is the essence, how many of us will wait,

that's the real question.

So really in my own opinion, it's a total waste of time to go on a

Crusade for DS, the Battle is already lost.

Some of us already fought it ......

Sincerely yours.

Serge

Hey all;

Just a thought......

Maybe we should all show up one day at the avid NAB booth wearing

T-shirts stating--

AVID  WTF??

(or something more clever)

Demanding the "wish list" improvements!!

I'm usually not so vocal (on the list and in person) but this whole

situation has me in an up roar.......I'm (as many) love the DS to much

to see it get pushed aside....

Call me crazy if you'd like......It's FRIDAY!!
