Houdini never ceases to amaze me. It came out before MAX did and to
this day, it seems to be the application with the most robust and
future-proof architecture. Granted that the design makes some tasks
overly cumbersome, nevertheless it is still able to achieve effects not
possible in the mainstream applications. What's more, it appears to be
gaining more and more favor these day and deservedly so.

hmm
Didn't the vanguard's guys end up resorting to piping some data in HDN
for
the feathers system?
Plus I believe it's rendered with some renderman compliant engine, don't
know if it's Pixar's or a mix of 3DLight, AIR and Mantra.
I could be totally wrong though, it's all hearsay and second hand.
As for CG features there was the enchanted forest (or whatever they
translated it to in english), which was a Spanish production made on a
really cheap budget and entirely in maya. On top of that quite a few
shops
use Maya out of the box or with just some scripts, but so do several XSI
ones and still get some pretty damn good stuff out of it, on budget and
in
time (Hybrid comes to mind).

Just wondering if there is any full 3d movies done completely in
Maya(off the shelves with little to no custom plug-ins)?
As of XSI I know there are Pinocchio 3000 and Magic Round about.
Thanks
