BTW I'd been sort of bungling around with the mike isner copy weight script and got it to work on multi selections which might speed things up a tad. So if you got like 1 lores source for weighting (I guess your cage object) you can pick all the "slave" or "target" objects and steal the weights off of that.

This can install as a self-installing command, just change the extension to .zip, unzip, and put it in your plugin path.
It'll show up under deform->envelope->mi_copy_multiweights
