Subject: RE: ok, jetzt reichts! We know user preferences in XSI are spread a little bit all over the place; starting with the next version we've doing some work to make some of these more obvious. I'll see if something can be done about the migration of this particuliar one------------------

Conversation: how to move an object based on an image
Subject: ok, jetzt reichts!ok, ok, boring monday afternoon, here's some information on how to make XSI better. based on circumstantial evidence gathered over the last 16 months:every time we upgrade XSI, i, and a couple other ex-maya-ers go through the same steps:-launch the all-new XSI-try to navigate, notice that the s-key style navigation doesn't work like in the last version, with MMB pan and LMB tumbleand BOTH track in/out (why don't these settings migrate?)-uhm... yeah, remember... there was this custom setting. the checkbox that makes it behave like maya, but is not called'make navigation behave like maya' because of... whatever-set out to search where exactly these settings would be. hmm.. no 'navigation' preferences in the prefs panel.-hmm... let's try the 'camera' property editor. nah, nope. although, it /is/ kinda about moving the camera. but, well.-maybe the 'transform preferences'... oh. nah.-the 'display options' maybe - it is remotely related to display, kinda, so... but... no-allright, let's go to the global prefs again. oh... wow! 'tools' is not expanded yet. it just /looks/ like it's expanded, becausethere's stuff underneath, but it's actually not. there's stuff hidden, just click the PLUS. duh!-'camera' finally leads to the solution. hahaha! 'alternate mouse mapping' is what they call it. cute!now, this was just 10 minutes, so it's no life-or-death situation, but yet... i've gone through it for 3.51, 4 beta, 4, 4.2 and the procedure never stuck in mind. so either i'm completely stupid and should have been fired/politely laid off a long time ago and am damn lucky to still have my job, or, something is not very intuitive here.please, no hard feelings - i'm just rambling. but it had to be said. (really, otherwise i'm quite happy with XSI)cheerio,-ben---
