Thanks for your precisions Christine.
Is there anyone at Softimage hunting down 3rd parties that are already
creating for other 3D Softwares and convincing to develop for XSI? I
mean it helps when users email them but sometimes interest from
Softimage could also prove them that it could be a good thing to develop
for XSI.
I'm doing my part. I've been harassing Afterburn people, Particle Flow
people, Blastcode people and Realflow people for the last year or
so..man they'd probably call me by my first name if they'd see me on the
street.
My suggestion is that if you want a plug-in to be developed for your 3D
application of choice don't be shy to write an email to 3rd parties.
MAC
P.s. Christine, I just bought a brand new front door washing machine.
I'm so enthousiast I can't stop looking at it when doing my laundry so
if you want you can stop by and we can wash you skirt ;))

Hi Thomas et all,
I was speed-reading through this thread, eating my left-over tandoori
chicken, and thought I should interject to put the record straight.
If you are planning on developing plugins for commercial purposes and/or
if you want to use Softimage logos in your plugin, you need to join the
Softimage Developer Program.
This Program entitles you to a one-year developer license, full support
for our SDK via our private web area page (examples and C++ programming
question support), as well as any updates to the software that occur
during that one-year period.
Thomas, I sent you the pdf's that gave more details on the pricing and
whatnot and gave you instructions as to what needed to be signed in
order to join the program. I think I also mentioned that if you found
the membership fee to be too prohibitive, to send me a proposal of why
Softimage should sponsor you into the program.
We are definitely interested in helping all developers' projects out
there come to fruition, and are willing to discuss ways to help them do
so. However, we do need to see a project proposal...
I hope this is useful information for everyone. If you find that the
information in my email or on the web is a bit confusing, sorry about
that. We will try to clean that up in the near future...
Thanks and by the way, I'm leaving for L.A. tomorrow and probably won't
be reading the XSI list for a couple of weeks, so please don't be
insulted if I don't answer to any emails on the list.
(wipes some &&^%$(at)*^&!! mint-yogurt sauce from her new skirt)
Thanks,
Christine

Huh? Who told you that? Are several email exchanges with Christine
Charette over the official address mentioned on exactly that page not
enough? Who is the final person to decide what the actual policy is? How
much more official can it become? Just shoot, I'm all ears.
And I never said that the SDK package isn't a fantastic value, but that
is also true for a Porsche and I don't own one. I have to walk ;-) But
why is it _mandatory_ to pay for the SDK program if you want to go
commercial with your plugins? I mean, I don't absolutely have to develop
for XSI...
I am sure it pays for itself for someone as involved in big XSI
productions as you, but for me, it simply doesn't. Is that a bad thing?
Am I "not worth it"?
Cheers,
Thomas Helzle
