Subject : mi_query question
While digging deeper into the Mental Ray SDK, I have a bit of a hard time with the docs on mi_query and scene items.
I am trying to get the position of an object in the scene (not the currently rendered object) to compute the direction of that object from the currently rendered one. In the end I need the dot product between the current normal and that other object (a null for instance).
I found out by going through existing shaders how to create an object picker in single mode and I was able to get the 3-data object structure in my shader. I mi_query-ed the miQ_INST_ITEM...
But now I seem to be unable to understand how I can get the position of that object.
It just doesn't click for me.

Can someone point me in the right direction? What mi_query do I need or is it the scene database I have to get that information from?

Thank you very much!
