I'm waiting for new generation game play, and not new generation graphics, personally. Anyhow, news is just in that Windows Vista will be running DirectX 10, which will give the PC even more of a graphical punch than the latest consoles, which will all be running DX9. So yes, some amazing graphical treats shall be coming our way... assuming you can afford the hardware to get them going, of course.

While it is true that allot of the very cool stuff that was shown at E3 at the Sony PS3 conference has since been confirmed to have been pre-rendered "look" footage, we are now seeing actual game footage that is slightly less quality but still amazing. It's been mentioned before but the Unreal stuff was 100% real time. The Killzone2 stuff unfortunately was not real time. Recently, the makers of the Mobile Suit Gundum game released real time game play footage that looks almost as good as the video they showed at E3. Also, Unless, it's been doctored to look more like game play, the new teaser trailer for Resident Evil 5 on PS3 (goodbye Nintendo) looks damn hot, literally--it seems RE is moving to the desert.

One thing that still impresses from E3 regarding PS3, is that the mealtime gas station explosion demo and "a trillion rubber ducks and 2 glasses of pouring water" demo were all done "in processor" with no help from the mythical Nvidia RSX GPU. Go Cell processor!

While I was disappointed to learn of the somewhat deceptive use of pre-rendered "look" videos at E3, the recent release of actual game play screens seems to be mostly living up to those standards. ....getting excited again!

One last comment, It is amazing what a difference the use of shaders and lighting makes in these games. In the latest Unreal3 presentation footage, the presenters stop the "video" and turn off the dynamic shadows and shaders so we can see what it would look like without them. While still nicely detailed, cuz of higher poly counts, it's not much different from a PS2 or xbox game. But when they turn them back on......oooooohh, there's the pretty. This next generation of games is all about lighting and dynamics.

anyone in games care to comment on whether or not we really can
expect this level of quality in the next gen consoles? If we can,
I'll have 4.
