I don't know how much whining you guys saw before 3Democracy, but now that Softimage has made XSI available to the masses, I'm afraid that this whining will drone on... XSI drew a lot of people from programs like truespace, carrera, poser, etc, and I can tell you that whining was a way of life for them there.

The same people that complained that the advanced rigs and Texture Layer Editor weren't included in Foundation are now complaining because it costs money to upgrade to the next version (which now includes those two items).

I don't think that the whiners consider the fact that Softimage probably didn't have to re-license Mental Ray for a .2 upgrade, but probably had to for the 3.3 to 3.4 upgrade. That can't be cheap, and Softimage can't be making much on Foundation in the first place. So let me thank Softimage for making this tool available to us at such a low price!

So basically, Joel, for an upgrade of Foundation, you would pay the
same price as a full license of Poser, and just a little more than a
license of trueSpace? Is that right, Joel? Funny how people see
things. Nero is about 120$ I think....

Oh and if you wait for bugs to get fixed, think again. That's the
price to pay when you purchase such a complex product that get's
upgraded every 10 months.

Cheers Bernard

I'd pay about $250, but I won't be paying $400. I mean, I'm still
waiting for the bgs in 4.2 to be fixed. Now I know it'll cost me
another copy of Foundation (by the time I can afford it) to see a whole
host of new ones. I don't know about you, but that doesn't exactly make
me want to *jump* at the chance of buying into XSI again. Call me a
whiner if you like, but that's how I see it.

By saying this, I realise I'm retaining my status as the most hated
person on this list :)

So how much would you be willing to pay for that upgrade? Seriously.

hmmm i dont know i think $395 for Fnd upgrade is a little harsh. i
mean it is the "budget" version....thus most people who have it are on
a....budget *shock* lol
and fact that its the promo price is even worse imo, cause i assume
that means that there is no upgrade price after the promo ends, and
you just buy Fnd again!
seems a bit unfair, seeing as i know myself i cant afford the Promo
upgrade within its time frame...and to pay the full Fnd price again is
not going to be an easy choice to make...bummer.
my only hope atm is that the word "upgrade" is being loosely used by
soft and they just mean "upgrade" from another app (maya *cough*) to
XSI 5.....well...its all i got atm lol.
