[no subject]

Hi folks-

I'm looking to drive the scale value of an area light with a grayscale value
from an image sequence. It's a simple matter to convert the color into a
scalar value in the render tree, it's also a simple matter to prototype the
effect via an expression that links to a dummy shader with a scalar share
node input. Adjusting the scalar share value adjusts the area scale.
I run into a problem when I attempt to connect the incoming image sequence
to the scalar input of the dummy shader. At that point, the expression seems
to die (no errors, but the light's area scale value doesn't/won't change)

I have determined that using a color2scalar node directly into the shader
port produces a non scalar value (so says the error message) By passing the
color2scalar through the scalar share node, the error goes away but there's
still no result.

Anyone have any experience putting something like this together? I've hit a
bit of a wall.

thx

-Dave
