I've just had great luck doing fbx exports from maya 7 and importing into 5.0
with the 4.2 plugin. Only one model freaked, and i suspect it has something to
do with the rigging from maya...
Have you tried importing them one at a time, saving as xsi, and then merging the
xsi files?
