To the best of my knowledge, no, you must merge the meshes. This would
be nice to have though!

Subject: "insert polygons" without merge?
Hi,
there is one thing I miss in XSI when modelling: easily inserting
polygons into a mesh. For instance, I model something and want to add a
sphere shape somewhere. The only way I have found is to merge a sphere
with the original model, but this is far from ideal, since it kills some
of the history and is overkill for just adding some polys.
What I would like to have is a simple copy/paste tool that allows me to
select some polygons on a different mesh (the sphere in the above
example), copy them and paste them into my main model where the new
polys are automatically selected for easy positioning.
Does something like this already exist or do I have to script it myself?
It sounds so basic that I fear I just overlooked it...
Thanks for any pointer!
