What is the purpose of the Particle Player?

Subject : What is the purpose of the Particle Player?

Is it supposed to be able to render anything?

I'm in one of those situations where XSI wants to re-cache my particle sim every time I load the scene, and I'm looking for workarounds.

Why can't we just have options for write cache/read cache on our sims?
