Better shaded/hardware texture display mode?

Subject : Better shaded/hardware texture display mode?

Does anyone know of a way to take better advantage of standard gfx hardware, without actually going to RT shaders? ie.. shadows, mult lights, penumbras, better transp, procedurals shaders, etc….  Something more along the lines of Maya’s normal shaded/hw texture display mode??
