it's not the same... i think.
in my case, you can save as dotXSI and re-load in the very same 4.2, and
the UVs will come in all over the place.

there is this problem with the texture editor in XSI 4.2 that pretty
much keeps screwing me up every time i touch XSI. basically, stuff
doesn't render as textured, weird things show up that don't show up
in openGL view. the geometry is fine. the rendertree is fine.
however, it doesn't render properly.
exporting as anything but .scn generates UVs that are completely off
the map. i have not found a way of salvaging a scene that has been
touched by the 4.2 texture editor. i *think* this is a known issue.
has anyone come across this and knows a way to work around? i would
*love* to be able to just downgrade back to 3.51, but, as i said,
saving as dotXSI screws up the UVs. (and, no, i can't upgrade to 5,
sorry.)
any help would be appreciated!

Not sure about your "in-xsi" issues (I haven't had those), but yes
there is a known issue with exporting UVs from XSI.
The export format that works for me is OBJ. I export OBJ to 3dstudio
MAX regularly and have no problems with the UVs.
