just played around a bit with the display properties and xsi layouts and it has now jumped back to the middle of the screen

There are no 'default positions' to reset, this is a problem with your dual monitor setup configuration.  Try setting your card in Dual View, and also try using the standard layouts that come with XSI.  Also, watch out for any floating window or application that could be hanging around the location that the viewport capture is trying to center itself around.

it is a dual monitor setup. one of the monitors died and so replaced it with another and since then i've always had this problem. just wish there was a command simmilar to photoshop where you can reset windows positions to default

when i make a capture from any viewport the capture window is opens in the bottom right of my monitor causing part of the capture to be obscured and a black band where capture window dissapears off screen
see attached image.
 
does anyone know how to re-set the capture window back to its correct position?
