You can remap the S key to vertical zoom if you want.
I too miss the S key in the AE, but I'm begining to like the C key,
which is better IMO.

Seriously though, I miss the function from 4.2 so scale the view in Y.
Before you could use the S + MMB to do that, which now doesn't seem to
work anymore.
Any suggestions?
