Did you have OpenGL views in Maya span over both screens or only on the first screen?
XSI should also be faster if you only put it on the first screen (with just palettes on the second).
I can only confirm that it has always been like that for me on windows :-)

Not in my experience. The same model in Maya in Dual View didn't have
nearly the issue that XSI did. Maya had normal, fast display
performance than XSI in textured mode and even in "high quality
rendering" mode when dual view was on (i.e. before we found out that
was making the difference).
