True, you cannot login as admin on XP home, but there is an easy work around for basic admin tasks:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
For Device Manager try typing "sysdm.cpl" without the quotes into Start>Run and then accessing it from the Hardware tab. Or try "devmgmt.msc".
For User Accounts type "nusrmgr.cpl".
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Other than this minor annoyance I cannot see the diff with the pro version for a single machine setup

My home system is still NT. I'm in the process of filling out the specs on a new notebook to replace my home workstation and trying to stay under budget. Upgrading to XP Pro from XP adds $120 I could apply towards something else.

I would spring the extra few pennies and get Pro. It really depends on what
you need though. Pro has a little better networking feature set and some
very basic features that should have been included in home, like being
able to log in as Admin. If you have one computer at home you will
probably be ok with the home edition.

 Still on NT eh? :)

 Upgrading my home system from NT.
 Just wondering if it works on plain XP or is XP Pro absolutely required.

 Thanks,
 Brad
