Subject : .dmp file?
Hello,
Yesterday I had a severe crash. XSI 5 Adv WinXP. I lost two hours of
work when I went to rename a node and the interface locked up with the
white name entry still up and an hourglass floating over the interface.
I was using a Transform Group to collect and parent about 20 objects.
It hung when I hit enter to accept the new name for the new Transform
Group. Anyway after a very long time the software failed to crash and
appeared to not save a backup scene, it failed to prompt me to load a
recovery scene on restart after I closed the app. This morning, after
configuring automatic backups and looking for where the backup are
stored I stumbled across some files in my SI user directory. Two files
correspond to the exact time of software failure yesterday. One is a
scriptlog which holds quite a bit of useful information though I can't
tell if it is all there to use the script to rebuild what was lost. The
second is a .dmp file. It's larger than the script and is written at the
same time. What is this .dmp file? Can I rebuild my scene from it?(not
holding my breath of course). I tried opening it from XSI but no luck.
Any ideas?
