yeah, that makes sense. Mind you, the whole workgroup
shader thing is a bit of a mess, digging around all over the place for shaders
and stuff. You never really know where they're going to turn
up.

Ah sorry I should have clarified better. Too much
eggnog.
What I meant was that I'd like to be able to
add/subtract/organize the list. I don't like the idea of mixing shaders,
plugins, data directories etc. in the same favorites list because there is no
way to organize that thing. You can't even re-order them. Maybe what we need
is a bookmark type of setup with that type of organization setup. Generally I
only add favorites for directories 'outside' of the project directories. For
eg. I have a massive maps folder that I have under my favorites that's wayyyy
outside of my projects directory.
Also, something else that bothers me
about the paths button is that because it's not customizable you can't change
where the default links point to. For eg. if I'm creating a shader and click
nodes > texture > more, my User Add-ons path takes me to...
users\gene\Softimage\XSI_5.0\Addons\Data\DSPresets\Shaders\Texture
but
I only have dirtmap under that
location. Now unless thats the file I wanted I have to click up 5 levels.
That's 5 clicks. Then I have to dig down into...
users\gene\Softimage\XSI_5.0\Data\DSPresets\Shaders\Texture
which
has most of my installed shaders. That's 4 more clicks! Now I know I can move
those presets to the first location but the rigidness of the paths setup needs
work imo.
What I recommend is maybe getting rid of the paths button
and expanding the favorites functionality. Why not just put paths under
favorites?

you can

One small beef I have with xsi's implementation is that the
paths button is way up in the upper right while all the other similar
buttons are upper left, which creates a lot of back and forth mouse
movement. IMO, paths should be upper left.
I also would LOVE it if
the paths button was customizable. As in the paths, not the button
itself.

Sorry,
no, it is more a tool for normal windows users and those don't need that
feature very often ;-) Because of that, I normally had each sequence
in it's own folder... But with XSI not having something like .rpf or
layered .psd like lightwave, I start to have the same issue, since it is
annoying to have that many folders for each pass... :-( But maybe
you can use the XSI file dialogue and drag and drop the sequences to
fusion? ...Replace explorer.exe as default windows surface with
xsi.exe ;-) >LOL<
Best regards and a good 2006 to everyone.
