Not sure what the specific difference is for MR, but motion blurred
particles (with instances) seem to dissapear with no problem.

Back in the day Mental ray had a problem with hiding motion blurred 
objects...I don't know if it was fixed but I just learned to work around it.

You could animate transparency on and off over a 2 frames.

We have a script that looks for animated visibility and then transfers 
all that animation to the transparency of said object. that way you dont 
have to go back and redo it all.
