OK, a number of errors there. The focal length is the lens size, which is probably 7mm. What you refer to as focal length is called the "focal distance" and isn't really relevant for FOV calculations. The 23.98 you mention is probably the frames per second (FPS). I'm guessing the camera you're referring to is actually the Sony HDW-F900H which, if you look up the specs, has a 2/3" chip. Have a look at this document to learn about chip sizes:

but basically, the filmback size you want is
8.8mm x 6.6mm
or
.3465" x .2598"


Sticking this into XSI along with your 7mm lens gives you a horizontal FOV of 64.311° - relatively wide angle. Does this sound right?

I ran a quick track on it without using the correct FB info and no surprise it comes into xsi with a FOV of something like 12 (way off visually). I'm a little confused with all this conversion stuff so any input would be appreciated.
