It's an outdated measurement, from the TV tubes era, where the effective view size diagonal was about 2/3 of the view value. So 2/3" * 0.666 = 0.444", about 11mm. That's for a 2/3" CCD of 4:3 ratio, 8.8mm x 4.95mm.

It's roughly the same with 1/2", 1/3", 1/4" etc... CCDs. Just multiply by 2/3 and you'll get -again roughly- the real diagonal aperture.

Awful stuff, but that's what we get paid for.

I always get confused with the way ccd size is expressed as imperial.
How is 2 thirds of an inch 9.59mm? I made it 16.93mm. Is the ccd
measured diagonally?

Most HD cameras have a filmback of 2/3" (9.59mm wide). You could try
that.

    And this never happens in real life.

    Hopefully this may be a little help to someone. If you know the
    make and models of your 'real' cameras, tripods or dollies you can
    set the pivot offset values to match exactly what was on set.
