Maybe some version of Photoshop's layers where you would create a new layer and al the poses/keys were added into clips on that layer until you selected another layer or created a new one. Layers could be "flattened", ie, plotted into their new layers and it would be a flick of a layer's visibility  to switch between different animation versions.
