Thanks a lot Mathieu,

I see Bartek also wrote a neat little tutorial!
All questions answered, D3 shaders downloaded.

Taking butt out of thread - now.

Cheers

There are a few things in there but it's mostly to use and generate normal
maps... check the website, it should answer most of your questions.

Hi there,

I´m sorry to butt in but where do I get this D3 Normal shader?
(To make it even worse:) What is this D3 shader?

Cheers

That makes sense Raffaele but the D3 nromal shader does provide an
influence parameter that does appear to work pretty much the way a bump
map amplitude works.

amplitude on a normal map?
after the relief/displacement derived normals have been calculated, or if
you're using a straight baked normals map (derivated from the difference
between geometries, like in Zbrush), you don't have an "amplitude"
anymore.

an amplitude is only possible when setting a height for a relief mapping
of some sorts, once the normals are derivated there's no amplitude you can
set for them.

I don't remember D3 having an amplitude parameter and I can't see how it
could have had one, but then I haven't used it in ages and I'm maybe
missing something.

Yes the XSI native normal map nodes seem to be lacking somewhat. I
also noticed that there is no control for amplitude either.
You'd think they woudl have though of these paramters when creating
them, seeing as they already existed in D3.

Hey list -

Maybe I'm missing something, but there doesn't seem to be a way to set
the repeats for a normal map texture. I don't see a way of setting the
repeats anywhere in the XSI Normal Map Node - even if you click on
Edit, it brings another PPG to mess with the UVW Transformation, the
Wrapping, even the Swap UV - but no repeats ??

Anyway I'm using the D3 Node instead for the time being but
nonetheless I'm still curious as to why we can't set the repeats...
Anyone ?
