at least with that little sample scene and just cones as instances.

The instances don't get updated though.
I tried using a scripted op which did something similar with the same
result. The particle trails show that the velocity direction has altered,
but the instances stay in the same orientation.
Maybe the instances are evaluated before the event/scripted ops.
