Hi Christian,

here´s a M16/CAR 15 I did a while back, free download.
No catch. I´d welcome if you´d comment on the quality.

http://www.turbosquid.com/FullPreview/Index.cfm/ID/246059

A major problem people tend to forget is that various apps
have different default smoothing angles. Maya has 30°, Max
has 35° and XSI will default to 60°.

This will often result in a somewhat frustrating initial experience.

In regard to my model, I missed a couple of tri´s on the free
version but the major parts should smooth (+/-) correctly.
As long as you redo the Normals or skip importing them as
user normals you should end up with a somewhat o.k. thing.

If you (or anyone else) has specific requirements for their
models - I´d like to know. Am currently looking into the
option of selling various 3D models via Turbosquid.

Obviously would want people to be satisfied with their investment.

Cheers

tim

I just made the same experience.
I needed a bunch of 3D models very quickly, and the overall quality on Turbosquid seems to be horrible.
There are some really nice models buried under a sh!tload of awful models. And the biggest problem: almost all models are only available in .max format.
I mean what's that all about? Do people think that Max is the only 3D package out there?
Is it really so hard to offer .obj versions or at least use a 3D format that can be read by anything else than frickin Max?

I'm really upset right now - waiting for the Max Trial to finish downloading.

Cheers,
Chris

All of these formats... What a pain in the ass. Turbo Squid is a mess. You're never quite sure what you're getting. Viewpoint had it's problems, one of which was cost, but the kind of garbage models and variety of formats on Turbo Squid is just rediculous. I saw someone download what they though was an Acacia tree model, only to find that it was an elaborately cut out poly with a texture map of the tree on it.
