a server room is always handy to have :) And with 10 machines you
probably would need some cooling too (it's not always winter you
know....).
also add your machines to the hosts file (located under /etc/). That
way you can also ping the machines from the server to check if they
can be reached through machine name (and don't use DHCP on any of the
machines).
the hosts file could look something like this
# ----------------------------------
# hosts file
# local machine
127.0.0.1 localhost
192.168.0.100 myserver
# farm machines
192.168.0.101 render1
192.168.0.102 render2
192.168.0.103 render3
192.168.0.104 render4
192.168.0.105 render5
# ----------------------------------
Sound's wierd though that some XP machines require IP address, that
sounds to me that the machine isn't properly registered in the
workgroup (or are you using a doman?).
