Well, Eric - complain complain, and I know it wont make you feel better
but I don't think the particle work I'm seeing coming out of these maya
guys looks anywhere near as good as what you got out of it. Though
one's sanity is quite a heavy price to pay for it...
Besides, I think there's something to be said for NOT doing what you're
good at.
Hats off to you,

Shut up Todd!
I've spent enough time making suggestions on it. If after all this time it's still a day late and a dollar short I don't really care. There are volumes of really excellent suggestions. We'll just have to wait and see if it turns out to be the right balance of technical potential and artistic workflow.
I have by choice refused to touch the particle system for 6 months. I have by now almost completey healed the optical burn-in of the simulation progress bar from my retinas. I have been in therapy and I almost never have nightmares anymore. In one, I cache and cache but I never get anywhere, it always looks exactly the same, and the longer I work on it, the sequence length just gets longer and longer. The another one, I am working on "St. Francis" and there are PTP files crawling all over me, I would awake, screaming "GET THEM OFF ME!"
I would like to thank SoftImage for the messy particle system, it scares the hell out of people and it's kept this freelancer busy for the last several years as a consequence... Though now I am just slightly insane as well.
I look forward to getting some of it back with the new version.
