Hi Kim,
If you want something without ZBrush's oddness just
for painting geometry check out Sharp Construct. It's available on windows and
linux - only early in development, but so far much easier to use. It doesn't
export displacements yet - just objs, but it's on the feature list. http://sharp3d.sf.net
Cheers,
Alan.

I'll be
watching this with interest. I have Zbrush but I've yet to find the time to
get my head around it's oddness. I think that could be it's
downfall.
In our search of a 3D painting tool to work with XSI, we stumbled
on Hexagon, which I'm sure most of you know about.
For those
who dont, http://www.eovia.com/products/hexagon/hexagon2.asp
It seems like a fairly impressive modelling tool as well as a 3D
paint system - particularly version 2 which now supports brush displacement
- similar to Zbrush, but with modelling tools my brain understands. It
also includes mesh unfolding for UV mapping. These guys seem to be
offering the same thing as Luxology with their Modo, but cheaper.
My
question is, has anyone imported hexagon models into XSI? I'm curious
how well the SubD, displacment and color maps hold up on the conversion to
OBJ.
Thanks.
