You can install the trial, right? Still lame, but that's how everything
else seems to get .max files open. I blame Max for having a really
crazy format, not Soft.
Also, is there a way to make it import without triangulating
everything? If not, this import is kind of useless, since there are
ways to get the non-triangulated mesh across. Err, maybe not useless,
and it's a good starting point, but I can't imagine ever using it until
it gets some more features. For example, a user normal cluster needs to
come through to deal with Max's smoothing group thing.
I don't want to bash the release, though. I'm really happy to have it.
In particular, I'm glad to see the additional options for the rasterizer
and deformation motion interpolation. And I haven't tried the collada
import either, so I'll be interested to see how it holds up. Also, I
read through the bug list and am of course glad for everything in
there. Particularly some of the reference model stuff.

I was all excited about the Max import option but it appears that you
still need Max8!!!?? What gives?! I thought you could import the max
file format without that horrible piece of software.
