Sorry Luc-Eric for being a pain - yesterday was just one of those days the chinese may call "interesting". ;-)
5.1 solved the issue with 16Bit Tiffs and I'm a happy camper once more.
The printing industry is all TIFF (and Adobe) and will most probably stay that way, so being able to render HighRes illustrations (from 3000x3000 pixels up to 6000x6000pixels in my current job) directly into this format without additional steps makes life much easier.
