I can´t comment on 5.1 yet. Nor on 4.2.

Also didn´t want to add to your bitterness with
my suggestions. Sounds like you often get asked
to do short notice jobs, e.g. have tight deadlines.

I can understand you´d prefer to be able to rely
blindly on your tools in such (any) situations.

The only way I found out of this is to decline from
such jobs in general as they aren´t paid well either.

It´s not worth the hassle. Imho. Not meant as a
wisecracking, thought. I just found that people
knowing *their* job won´t ask you any BS.

I know, that doesn´t help much. Especially from
a guy 99% of his time a student (100% XSI novice).

Cheers anyway,

tim

P.S: If you get things to load fine into 4.2, why do
you need to export to 5.1 instead of loading a *.scn?

They have various meshes with various problems from me over the past few month without any resolution other then I should use 4.2 and convert to one of the other formats and somehow get it into 5.x. Unfortunately the export and re-import between 4. and 5.x is not without it's own limitations. It's embarrassing and I lost a few jobs because I could not import and render a few scenes I should make for a sign maker. A quick workflow consisting out of the procurement of some Daz or Renderosity or Turbosquid models and setting up a quick scene for a signmaker around the corner has lead consecutively to time disasters as XSI made it necessary to re texture the entire models because of the abysmal import capabilities. And pressing the max import button with the window popping up which tells me that I have to procure max 8 to be able to read scenes/models just made my jaw drop down to the floor. Probably the next .obj import button fix is to install a C4D license with it's flawless .obj import/export... I am not happy and discovering the differences between announcements, deliverable and my own expectations does not give me a warm and fuzzy feeling right now either...

Good day for gardening...

Hi Rainer,

also managed to create an *.obj file that instantly crashes
XSI 5.01. Am currently packing it for uploading it to their
ftp.
