So they have patented basic math? a + b? Tell me that this isn't true <LOL>
Adding the background pixels value to the foreground pixel is hardly any kind of invention...
But I think this is a web myth - otherwise AfterEffects couldn't use it as well.

As far as i know additive in photoshop is called linear
dodge. Dont ask me why
