If its poly then maybe 3ds might work, I manages to get in a million+ 3ds
from max with a gazzilion objects and xsi handled it despite it taking a
good long coffee break. Don?t know how it would handle texture-coords though
since this was untextured. Also as additional problem the 3ds had its scale
way buggered and some genius on max liked to have the model 100000+ units
off to positive X (this was in max and not the importer). There was also a
tutorial somewhere online on getting IGES into XSI which seems to be an art
in itself but do-able. I have tried it once on a huge house and gave up
dumping tesselated obj out of Rhino. That was before I saw the tut.
Good luck,
Fabian

Thanks Fabian
yes, Rhino is essential when you step into the world of rapid prototyping
and the industrial design world. It is also a quick and reliable way to
convert autocad and other formats into files XSI can load if you want to do
Previz work....
The problem I have is more related to models which are already textured. XSI
is simply broken in that respect after 5.x came out. There is also a story
behind that... The programmer who wrote the 4.2 obj importer/exporter was
not utilized to write the new one and the guy who did it did a shoddy job.
That's life. But they should correct it. It's just so basic. Unfortunately I
have to convert a lot of meshes and am continuously inconvenienced. And like
a boil it continues to aggravate me... grrrrr.
But hey, you know what, I will use XSI do export my animated meshes into C4D
as C4D did not boather me a single time. 3 Grand and the pain is over with.
No maintenance or upgrades for SoftImage this year.
Cheers and have a great weekend!
Rainer
