Since people seem to have problems with some
*.obj files crashing XSI and I have problems in
actually downloading the XSI 5.1 update...

Here´s a free *.obj model, a generic (combat)boot:

Model done in XSI 5.01, 52kB zipped *.obj exported.
But beware, looks really huge when put into Maya :-)
