i found this behavior most recently when adding a particle system to the
scene. the explorer doesn't show my renaming or reorganization of
objects. "r" to reset view doesn't work. only F5 which is a lot slower
for whatever reason. must be asking a refresh from a lot more objects
that "r" does...
