If it was just up to me we wouldn't have image clip fx.., at least for color correction I mean why would have color tools there, then other kinds of tools in the RenderTree.  A shader to do this in the RenderTree is totally reasonable, whereas I'm less keen on adding more feature creep to the Image Clip PPG

Good plan - better off giving the FXTree 16/32bit support first and have us do ops like that in there. I can see a benefit of having it outside the rendertree for colour correction - depending on your scene it may actually become more computation doing the correction for every sample than it would have been to have it adjusted prior to being passed to mental ray - plus you can't blur and lots of other 2D goodies within MR (yes I know that's a lie, but I mean efficiently with the standard shaders).
