for me... i usually have to switch the camera that i am looking through
that viewport with. or right click on the maximize view button and
select reset all in order to fix this problem

Can't help thinking there's a "way" to make them
appear and disappear and its just a feature I don't
understand, rather than a bug. If so, what is that
feature? Its driving me nuts :)
