When running 4.2 (I think) we had major problems with displacement (still do sometimes) but it was to do with a very spikey object, once in a while would have some of it's spikes cropped. It took ages to find a fix, but in the end we cranked up the Max Disp to something like 300. It didn't slow the render times in any way, but it insured the render was correct. Personally I wouldn't worry about it, as long as it's set to a value higher than that which you want your displacement to go.
