Okay, I think I mis-spoke earlier. I can get it to work just by installing the 1.5 beta of the CG compiler. You don't have to dump any files into your bin directory unless you want to. In my frustration, I was trying two possible fixes at the same time.

Beta 1.5? Really? Was that on purpose? Do I look like someone who wants beta software in my production pipeline so that I can have access to all the latest features? Wait, don't answer that.

Before I start punching things, can anyone else confirm that the CG Program node is broken in XSI 5.1?

Here's the quick test:

1) Load XSI 5.1.
2) Create an object.
3) Open the render tree.
4) Get a Nodes->Realtime Cg->Cg Program node from the render tree.
5) Open the rendertree and look to see if it says:
#WARNING : 3000 - RT shader DLL (Cg_Shaders.dll) not found in path
6) (Optional) Verify that the file Cg_Shaders.dll does in fact exist in "C:\Softimage\XSI_5.1\Application\bin."

This node worked fine in 5.0. I'm assuming if it's broken, it has something to do with the new CG FX node.

Thanks,
Andy
