There are a few ways of achieving this, albeit none quite the same as the
shell modifier in Max (which really rocks and should be implemented in XSI
as a native feature imo). First, you can take your object, duplicate it,
select all polys, invert them, use a negative valued Push op. Then select
both objects and merge them with Blend toggled on. That's one way of doing
it natively in XSI with no external plugins/scripts. Another way is to use
Hegle's Solidify plugin which I think can be found either in netview or at
his site www.mindthink.de
Third is a plugin Kim Aldis just wrote but not sure if it is still freely
available or not. It was a demo only and would expire so you would
eventually have to purchase it anyways.

Subject: is there a shell tool like in 3ds max

hi,
i am searching for a method or a tool to add "depth" or "thickness" to
polymeshes.

for example, create a sphere and modify the extent to have only a part
of the sphere visible. then add a "shell" to give thickness, maybe too
with some bevel features to adjust the edge connections.

is there a built in feature like that in xsi already?

thanks for any hint,
daniel
