normally, in the evaluation graph, if an item is hidden and not
affecting other things, most operations on it will not flag certain
stacks dirty.
it's possible that XSI is mis-evaluating (considering view visibility at
rendertime graph evaluation), or that it's simply doing something
downright stupid.
it does sound like a bug to me.
