pretty much ANYTHING will render faster then maya's outdated and
contemptible attempt at a rendering engine :)
that's like benchmarking cars' speed against a monocycle without the
wheel :)
for the record, if you thought that maya and MRay for maya UVs
subdivision scheme was bad, have a look at gelato's linear
interpolation; according to everybody who's used it's nothing short of
shocking.
