rotation causes machine to lock

Hi All,
I have this weird problem where just trying to rotate an object locks my 
machine. Actually, just clicking on the rotation widget in the 
transformation panel, locks it up.
This is windows, both Advanced and Foundation have the problem, which 
suggests a graphics card problem. It's a Parhelia card, which since 
updating to the latest drivers has been very reliable.
Will try re-installing the drivers, but I was wondering if anyone else 
had seen this kind of problem?
