That worked a treat, and so simple. I just assumed GATOR would consider the transform of the center and invert.
We need a "Stupid GATOR Tricks" section in the XSI wiki, and this one needs to be in that list!

You can use Gator.
duplicate your model, tag points and scale -X the copy.
Apply Gator with Mirror on.
I use it a couple of time and it was something like this.
