I got it working on a Newtek Video Toaster about
a year ago. I wrote a mental ray shader to capture the frame and send it
out. It worked okay, but it broke with the latest version of Mental Ray and I
haven't had time to fix it.
So it is possible to use other hardware solutions, but it
does take a bit of work.

renders on external monitor.. possible?
You can only do it with Avid Mojo as far as I know. I tested on once,
it was pretty cool but questionable if it's worth the price. I would have
considered getting one if I could have gotten it to work with After Effects too.

Is this possible with Soft? I see a digital monitor output setting
in preferences, but it seems to require AVID hardware..
