heya,
i am still a bit stuck when it comes to transferring envelop weights
from one character to another.
even without touching the topology my character seems to random
reorder its points. and therefore the weight maps save/load doesnt
work properly.
the character is exactly the same, the rig changed. but the deformer
objects still have the same names/count.
i checked the netview and all ressources i know but i cant find the
weightmap transfer tools you mention (iseners)
a tool for half life2 didnt worked at all in my situation.
what i found was a workaround with GATOR. description follows...
the question is... is THIS the way it has to be done?
--------
First, this workaround works only if the skeleton is the same. if there are new or renamed deformers existent, they need to be enveloped again.
char1 - theone that needs enveloping
cahr2 - the one where we get it from
1. load both charcters in the same scene
2. use GATOR on the Char1
3. point to char2
4. transfer the weightmaps
5. now char1 will follow the skeleton of char2. not quite what we want.
5. select char1 mesh, ctrl-E for the weight editor, save the weights out
6. load the scene with char1 only
7. apply a envelope operator on him, point to the deformer group
8. ctrl-e and load the saved weight map. voila!
now you could say, wait a sec, why didnt you just saved the weight map preset from char2 and apply it on char1?? GOOD question, try it and you will find out that if the point count AND order is not the same it wont work.
now sadly, even IF you work on the exactly same character and didnt changed a thing to its topolgy it seems to randomly reorder the points.
therefore the step with gator in between because gator doesnt mind what number a point has.
