First, is the spot very, very far away from the subject? I've found
that extremely distant light sources (above 1,500 units from the
subject) tend to have shadow border jagged and flickering (even with
raytraced non-area lights).

Also, for shadow maps, if the subject and the light are not moving,
make sure to disable the shadow map rebuild in the render options.

Cheers Bernard

Is there a way to get shadow map shadows to stop flickering even when
nothing is moving?

This is what I have tried to no avail.

On the spot light (cone angle less than 90):
Resolution up ( and down).
Softness up and down.
Samples up.

None of these make any diference to the flickering.

On the render panel:
I've played around with the antialiasing and jitter.
On the shadows page I've clicked off rebuild.

No joy.

I was using the open GL option for shadow map 'type'. Then I flipped it
back to default.
This made a slight improvement I think, but it's still flickering.

Am I missing something or is flickering just a feature of xsi shadow
maps? Is there a sneaky plugin somewhere?

If any one can shed any /light/ on this subject I'd be all ears.
Cheers.
