as we get further away from poor Bernards original thread, I'll jump on this and just say that for importing and exporting multiple objects, skeletons and rigs included, I use export > .xsi when exporting and importing small pieces of data to other scenes. It works as you would expect with multiple objects selected.
But, I hear you on the multi selection model export..It could be improved a tad...
I uusally just multi select the assets I need and cretae > new model to embed them under a model and then export. An extra step I know, but the quickest way around the prob.
